A British International Section has been implanted in the city of Orléans since 2005. The section begins in Guillaume Apollinaire Primary School, continues in Collège Dunois and finishes at the Lycée Jean Zay.

Presentation
The International Section in Collège Dunois welcomes not only English-speaking pupils but also pupils who have spent some time in an English-speaking country or who already have an excellent level in English.

Our objectives
Our section enables English-speaking pupils who for one reason or an another are currently living the area of Orléans to further their studies in English language, literature, history and geography. These lessons taught in English aim to follow where possible the contents of the British syllabus. Particular attention is paid to the pupils’ adaptation to the French system.
The British style teaching approach and methods allow non native speakers who have already an significant higher level in English to benefit from this unique English-speaking environment.

We want our students to
-become confident communicators and responsible citizens
-contribute positively and creatively
-aspire to be the best they can be, and to achieve success and independence in their learning
-develop knowledge and skills, including team-work
-understand, appreciate and respect each other and the diverse world in which we live.

Teaching programme
The teaching programme in Collège Dunois consists of 8-9 hours of lessons dispensed exclusively in English.
Pupils follow 4 hours of English literature a week studying literary heritage prose and poetry. A Shakespeare play is studied each year from Year 8.
There are 2 or 3 hours a week of English language and culture.
Pupils of the section study British history and world geography for two hours a week and this is in addition to the hours of history and geography taught in French.
In Year 10, pupils of the section sit a specific DNB final French exam (« DNB Option internationale ») to validate their knowledge and skills in literature and history/geography in an oral exam (of 15 or 20 minutes).
Extra-curricula activities are organised as well as a school trip to the UK every two years.

How to join the section ?
To enter the section (Year 7 to 10) pupils must sit an entrance exam which is organised late Spring. Pupils who are already in the Section in Guillaume Apollinaire Primary School are exempt.
